How it works
- 01
Upload a PNG
Drop a file, pick from disk, paste from the clipboard, or try the built-in example. JPG, WEBP, and other raster formats work too.
- 02
Adjust trace settings
Pick a preset, curve mode, color vs binary output, and optional advanced thresholds until the vector preview matches your intent.
- 03
Download SVG
Export real SVG markup, copy the source, or open it in the SVG code editor for further cleanup.
Best for
VTracer is built for both high-resolution graphics and compact pixel art — the same engine used in the official VTracer project.
- Logos and icons
- Illustrations and diagrams
- Scanned line art
- Pixel art and retro sprites
FAQ
Can I convert a PNG to SVG online for free?
Yes. Upload a PNG (or another raster image), tune tracing options, preview the SVG, and download — the vectorization runs locally in your browser using a WebAssembly build of the VTracer engine.
Does this work for transparent PNG images?
Raster transparency is read from the file. The traced SVG quality depends on the artwork; very soft anti-aliased edges may need a higher speckle filter or a different preset.
Can I trace colored PNG files to SVG?
Yes. Choose Color mode for full-color vector output, or switch to black and white for high-contrast line art. Presets like Poster and Photo adjust the baseline clustering and smoothing behavior.
What is the difference between spline, polygon, and pixel mode?
Spline fits smooth curves, polygon keeps straight segments, and pixel mode preserves stepped edges similar to pixelated rendering — matching VTracer’s path simplification options.
Which preset should I use for logos, pixel art, or photos?
B&W suits stamps and simple logos, Poster fits flat icons and illustrations, and Photo targets detailed scans and photographs. You can still fine-tune advanced sliders after picking a preset.
Is the output a real vector SVG file?
Yes. You get standard SVG markup (paths and groups) that you can edit in design tools or in the on-site SVG code editor.
